This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach grade 4 gifted and talented students. The students in my classroom love to read and are highly motivated to become better readers and writers. Additionally, these children love reading literature and science books.

If these students do not experience successful reading practice to develop proficiency, they might lose their enthusiasm for reading, which in turn leads to decreased motivation to practice and ultimately develop reading proficiency.

Reading is a skill that demands ongoing practice and varied reading about complex social issues

My Project

This book will offer them new language, new knowledge, and new modes of thought by giving them the opportunity to read complex texts and practice challenging reading. To give these students the amount of reading practice necessary, they need to read a lot of books and engage in reading activities that are varied in purpose and type of text. For example, students need to strengthen their ability to gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and report on information and ideas, to conduct original research in order to answer questions or solve problems, and to analyze and create a high volume and extensive range of print and non-print texts in media forms old and new.
