Did you have trouble learning to read in school as a child? My classroom is an inclusion classroom were my students learn on many different levels. Technology is a powerful tool to help fill in the gaps. Children are very excited to use technology and this will help me to catch young readers.
My classroom has 18 Third grade students who are very diverse in their abilities.
In Inclusion, we group our students in many different groups all day long according to their needs and abilities. We have children who have special needs, average students, and we have students that are very high achievers. We reach each child at their level and we teach the children how to work together to become part of a learning community. We work with an ESE teacher, Speech Pathologist, and an Occupational Therapist. My students are in need of this technology to help bridge the gap between the different levels.
I teach in the state of Florida and Third grade has mandatory retention for students who do not make the grade. With the Ipad I hope to be able to reach all my learners. This will help my students become the best people they can be. I love to read and with so many apps out there to help children, it would be wonderful to use this powerful tool to help them be more successful.
My Project
The Ipad is an amazing way to get children to love to read. As a teacher, I come across amazing apps that will help me to meet my children's needs. I teach in small groups all day long and there are so many exciting games that could help me teach a variety of skills. Children tend to lose their focus, but with computer games they tend to stay on task a lot easier. I will use this Ipad with my small groups to meet the children's needs especially because the groups are at different levels.
When I grew up, I had difficulty learning how to read.
A teacher was able to make me become a successful reader by teaching me through a different learning style then the other children in my class. I will never forget her and I would like to be that teacher for my students.
