Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students enter my classroom excited and ready to learn each day. They come from a variety of backgrounds; some students come from the neighborhood around the school, and others come from a different part of town. My students are a variety of nationalities and come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. All my students, regardless of where they live or what kind of family they come from, view school as the best place to be. My classroom is a homey place, filled with calming colors and comfortable pieces that give the atmosphere of a well-organized and inviting home. My students love this about my classroom as they feel safe and encouraged.
My students absolutely adore reading, which is awesome because 2nd grade students are working on becoming better readers and writers.
They work hard and strive to do their best work each day, in all subject areas. As in any situation, some students do need more encouragement than others. Most of my students receive at least some academic support at home, but many need more than just encouragement. While my students are hard workers, about 50% of them need additional academic support.
My Project
My students need these reading supplies to use daily. The most important item is the book pouches which students use daily to keep their books tidy and provide a safe spot to transport their books from home to school each day. The bins help our books in the classroom library stay organized. The books and magnetic letters fill in the gaps that have been missing in my classroom for a few years.
Altogether, these reading supplies will ensure that my 2nd grade students can achieve their highest reading potential.
These supplies will be used throughout the day, not just during reading instruction. These supplies will really help my class grow as readers!
