Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you remember back to your pre-reading days? So many books but none that you could truly read. Well, that is basically how my kinders feel when they look at our classroom library! But that can all change with "just right" books made especially for them.
I will be having up to 26 energetic kinder's this upcoming school year.
Most often then not, they come in as pre-readers when they are suppose to be coming into kindergarten as level A readers. That means that they come into kindergarten with little to no knowledge of letters, letter sounds and concepts of print. But, lucky for me they also have proven to be very enthusiastic about learning how to read and tackle any obstacle they have. I think that is due to the fact that we go to a school that understands in seeing the growth that students make over the course of a school year rather than just crunching the numbers to see how many students are meeting, exceeding or below.
My Project
We are really hoping that these leveled readers help develop those skills needed to learn how to read like sight words and concepts of print. My students will be able to practice what they learn. Most importantly helping build in the long run confident readers.
We currently just do not have enough leveled books in our classroom to share amongst 26 students.
This is an unfortunate situation because it means that the students are missing out on practicing and applying the skills and knowledge they get from the lessons that I teach. We all know that they way to get better at doing something is to practice. I truly feel that with these resources my students can grow to be confident readers.
