My new group of 4th graders are just amazing. Full of energy and positive about life. I teach at a title 1 school where most of the students are not privileged to have the newest shoes, electronics or even school supplies. Some of my students are just looking for someone to give them a little attention and make them feel like they matter. Every so often I would have a student ask me if I have a certain book. Unfortunately, my classroom library isn't stocked with the latest Wimpy Kid or Percy Jackson. It breaks my heart to let them down when they are showing an interest and love for reading.
These books will be in our classroom library where 75 students will have access to them. Students will read books that interest them and making them want to come back for more. Students will have a wide variety of books to choose from in the classroom library. My goal is to have enough books that are newer and interest my kids to read and engage in accelerated reader quizzes to build comprehension and vocabulary. My ultimate goal for these books is to instill a love of reading, build fluency and give students the opportunity to explore various types of text.
