Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom has 24 curious four- year-olds who love exploring and discovering new things every day. Our classroom consist of a variety of different social and economic backgrounds, mostly low-income, 98% to be exact. All my students are native Spanish speakers, in which the majority if not all will be the first ones in their families to attend to college. In our classroom, we focus on learning language skills, improving social and emotional skills as well as learning ABC's, alliteration, and numbers to mention few. For many of my students, coming to PK is their first time being away from home. The neighborhood where they live is a low-economic area and educational resources are hard to find. The majority of my students' parents have two jobs in order to support their families.
Our classroom is a fun and safe place where all my students are valued and respected.
My Project
“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” ― Albert Einstein. We all must agree on the quote above, fairy tales offer new dimension to a child’s imagination.
Tales speak to our students in many ways as they enter such an astonishing world, there are no real places and people, and at the story’s end, everything works out for the best.
Having these STEM kits in our classroom can help my students to improve their cognitive development in many ways as they work through their inner struggles with the help of their infinitive imagination to find solutions to become victorious at the end. Not forgetting the fact that will also improve their vocabulary, emotional and social skills.
Having these STEM kits as a resource for my students could also help them the basics of story in a thematic and consistent way — setting, characters, plot, etc. Setting their minds to predict in such early learning stages can guide them to become better writers in a near future.
