Our school is a smaller, title one school in NYC, with a large population of students with disabilities. Our students come from a variety of economic background. We have a large population of students of mixed ethnicities and many of them have English as their second language.
Our students rely on community support and resources provided in our community school.
Our learners benefit from the use of various teaching tools that can help them move, think, play and learn in fun and creative ways.
My Project
My students have worked hard to build and sustain a vegetable and herb garden. From small flower pots on our windowsill to buckets in the front yard, we have learned about gardening, the science behind it, and the insects and natural elements contributing.
We have recently built 4 raised garden beds, but do not have have the materials, like soil, needed to complete the project.
By having the funding necessary to purchase the soil and tarps, we will be able to have a fully-functioning garden for the spring! The students will be able to work in a new outdoor space, experiencing the science of nature.
