I teach science to Kindergarten through fifth grade students. These students are a very diverse group and have had constant struggles in and out of the classroom.
Students at our school come from low income households.
Every student in the school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. Some students receive weekend food bags. A great many of our students are learning English as a second language. Despite the challenges they face, they come to school willing and ready to learn every day. They work hard and are always trying their best. These students are capable of anything!
We have a garden at our school along with a garden curriculum to teach with and an area set up like a classroom for students to learn and explore. We are in need of vegetables and fruits to plant as Spring is approaching.
Teaching science on a six day rotation, I hope to create a garden space for each day that brings learning outdoors.
In order to do this, we need 6 plant starter kits and various kinds of vegetable seeds to plant in the kits. Once the plants grow, we can take them outdoors.
I would like for our students to have the fruits and vegetables that we have grown to be used in our Farmer's Market. This will help students connect their learning to the outside world.
