Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher of students in a low-income, high poverty area, I know the many challenges my students face both inside and outside of the classroom. I also know that my students do not let these challenges or their circumstances define them. Despite these challenges, my students come to school each day excited and ready to learn. They are kind and caring students who want to improve their school and community. They are eager, passionate, and highly invested in their own education.
My Project
My students are excited to bring learning to life through gardening in the classroom. The garden supplies we are requesting will allow my students to explore gardening, learn about a variety of vegetables, and practice the academic skills related to maintaining a garden. They will use math, science, and language arts authentically as we plant, track, and harvest several vegetables. Gardening in the classroom will also provide an opportunity to discuss healthy eating, healthy food choices, and where our food and energy come from. Additionally, students will gain even more responsibility in our daily routines as they are tasked with caring for our classroom garden.
