Our school strives to support each student's unique individual needs, recognizing the potential in each child to thrive in the school environment. Our students come from many different backgrounds, experiences, and strengths.
This is especially true in our Resource Room, where we have a diverse group of students who consistently overcome obstacles and challenges to find success in their learning.
As a special education team, we care greatly for our amazing group of students and are constantly impressed as they grow and learn each day. Each individual student brings their own spark to our classroom community.
My Project
The library in my special education classroom is not only a place for students to quietly enjoy books, but also a place where an overall love for reading is fostered. With a comfy carpet and pillows to lean on, students already benefit from using this space to explore the books we currently have. However, our current selection is limited.
The addition of these books will continue to enhance the love for reading I work to instill in my students.
Teaching special education creates a unique situation in which the balance between teaching foundational reading skills while also nurturing a love for reading can be more challenging that in other settings. It is important that all readers, including struggling readers, have access to a literature rich learning environment and these books can help accomplish just that. The books that would be provided through the funding of this project were picked with my specific students in mind, who, along with future students, will benefit from the for years to come.
