Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been an elementary educator for twenty-three years. For the past two years I have had the privilege of working with enrichment students. In a regular classroom, teachers have to teach many students at different ability levels with very different needs. Classroom teachers differentiate curriculum and activities to help students be successful. If a teacher is unable to differentiate then students may not have their individual needs met. My position allows me to assist the classroom teachers and advanced students through an enrichment pull out program.
Every student deserves to be taught at their instructional level and at their own pace.
My enrichment students need to be challenged and often pushed to the next level. Some of my students struggle socially and often need critical thinking skills and real-life experiences.
My Project
The materials from this project will assist in teaching students how to have a growth mindset. With a fixed mindset, it is believed that intelligence cannot be changed and people are either born smart or act smart but with a growth mindset, it is believed that intelligence can change with hard work, perseverance and challenges.
Reading aloud helps students learn how to use language and make sense of the world.
These read alouds will help teach a growth mindset. The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires is about a girl that has an idea and knows it will be the most magnificent thing. She tries and fails numerous times. She feels frustrated but she never gives up. This book will help students understand how to take a break and try again. The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett helps teach students that we all make mistakes and the best thing we can do is to learn from them.
