My Title 1 school believes that every child matters and does whatever it takes to see success in each individual student. My class is made up of 22 energetic, kind, and enthusiastic first graders. Each of my students bring diversity and various learning styles to our classroom. 13 of my 22 students are English language learners who speak Spanish or Vietnamese. They show a passion for learning new topics from non-fiction texts. My students particularly enjoy science and social studies and will go to the school library to seek out books on topics that we are learning about. I’m so lucky to be a teacher of such enthusiastic, lifelong learners!
My Project
My classroom library is by far the class favorite spot inside of my classroom. My students will thrive with the opportunity to have non-fiction leveled texts to read in our library that directly correlate to our science experiences. They have shown such an excitement for non-fiction books, and I want to give them the opportunity to read books they are interested in learning more about. My hope is that non-fiction texts become the books that my students grab during book shopping. The reading spots with wobble cushions will boost our engagement during independent reading time.
