My Students

My students come from communities that are overrun with violence and drugs. The majority of my students are African American, and based on statistics are at a disadvantage.

However, my students are not defined by their community and statistics; they are defined by their passion, love, dreams and goals as young learners.

My goal as an educator is to inspire my students to be eager to learn, to become avid readers, and to have a burning desire to follow their dreams.

I will incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They truly are an incredible group of young learners and I am so lucky and thankful to have them!

My Project

These books will inspire, encourage and create confident readers. In addition, they will be used to build literacy, a love for reading, and comprehension skills. My students love to read and choose books that excite them. I believe these books will bring joy, laughter, and a love for reading to my students. A love for reading only happens when students have a plethora of books to choose from on a daily basis. Books that they are interested in. These books will be available for my students to read regularly and will become a part of my class library. Variety is very important for young people. Just like adults have different interests in books, so do my students. I have several students who love new books. Please help me grow my book selection in my classroom to provide more opportunities for reading.
