My Students

I am a preschool educator at a STEM Magnet School in an urban school district. I have the privilege of teaching 15 naturally curious and active four-year-old students who come from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

My students need to increase their library of mathematics and science big books.

What’s terrific about the big books I am requesting, is that they will bring to life the very concepts our youngest learners are exposed to through our curriculum and science/ mathematics program.

My Project

What’s so great about big books, at this age, is the captivating illustrations and words. They literally jump off the page and magically engage the children in an instant.

The book collections I am seeking go hand in glove with our science and mathematics programs.

As an environmental science STEM elementary school, life cycles, animal sounds, natural resources, and animal science topics are completely covered in the science book collection.

Fostering number sense including number identification, counting, and grouping numbers is covered in the math big book collection. Both collections contain stories or information books that are developmentally appropriate for preschool age children
