My students need two Sunlighter Light Fixtures and plant trays for starting seedlings that will be moved to the garden, and growing indoor plants as well.
This project expired on May 24, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My school is comprised of 98% English language learners and 98% of its students living in poverty. But despite the many challenges life puts before them they face each day with determination and joy.
The students are fascinated with the science lab, and are like sponges soaking in all the new information.
Many students have had limited experiences with scientific concepts and nature. It is a real joy to get to be the teacher to light that fire in them.
These grow lights will be used by my students to sprout seedlings that will then be transferred to our garden/outdoor classroom. Getting an early start will assure that they will be able to harvest some healthy vegetables before school is out. Students and families will be encouraged to come to school during the summer to work in the garden and harvest as needed.
Teaching students how to grow their own food will give them life skills that will help them become self sufficient adults.
They will also enjoy the satisfaction of eating what they have grown. This will support healthy eating habits, and encourage a nurturing spirit.
