Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As an educator in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with daily challenges both at home and in school. I am a fifth grade math and science teacher in New York City. My students are eager to learn, and are very engaged in the learning process. My students need access to the tools that will help them be successful in their learning , while at the same time deepening their understanding of the content. It is my goal to provide them with learning experiences that will make math come alive in the classroom.
My Project
When learning is fun, the students remain engaged and motivated to complete the task.
As an educator, it is important for me to reach all learners that enter my classroom, from my English Language Learners to my students with disabilities.
Providing my students with the tools and resources needed to do this would be a great help. I am a fifth grade math and science teacher in New York, at a school located in a high-needs district. My students are eager to learn, and are very engaged in the learning process. Helping them make connections between the math they are learning and the real world will help deepen their problem solving abilities.
I am asking for Daily Math Practice Journals because they will be a helpful in reviewing math concepts before we begin or end our school day. I am asking for white-boards and markers to use during the fluency portion of my lessons in order to develop number sense at a deeper level. I am also asking for colored paper to help make math come alive and stand out in our classroom. When they hang their work on the board, it would be great to see it stand out in bright color. Each student would use these materials to help make this happen. We would use these materials to create individual math and science tool kits. My students live hard lives, and have to share many things. My students need paper, colored pencils, white boards, and paper to help make math and science stand out.
