What is there not to love when you spend your day with 23 five year olds? Every day is a new learning experience filled with curiosity and eagerness to persevere! Teaching in an inner city school in upstate NY, I have found that children at this age are sponges, that are always eager to learn and explore new things!
I have 23 Kindergarten students coming from a variety of different economic and cultural backgrounds, 100% of whom receive free lunch.
This year I have 12 ENL students who speak a variety of languages. I am so excited to engage this year's class! My goal is to help each child move into the 21st century by providing a classroom rich in engaging, hands-on materials and lessons.
My Project
I want to bring back play to Kindergarten. I want my children to see that learning does not always involve books and paperwork. I want my students to know they can become active in their own learning.
I am always looking for new engaging materials that will fully immerse and motivate my students to persevere and want to learn.
with these materials, my students will see that learning is not just computer programs and worksheets. They will become independent learners responsible for their own learning.
The materials I have selected will allow my children to work independently and within small groups to become better readers and writers. I look forward to the excitement these hands on materials will bring to my students.
