Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 7th-grade students are a diverse group of mathematicians who are eager to learn, collaborate, and expand their tool-belt of knowledge. Individually, each student brings a unique set of skills and abilities, together they are resilient.
My students are highly motivated by technology, particularly Chromebooks.
In order to provide them with the technology skills needed to ensure they are college and career ready, we need Chromebooks. Despite technology being an educational tool for success, many of my students do not have computer access at home. Having Chromebooks available in class will allow students to collaborate, have an endless supply of digital resources at their fingertips to help solidify their understanding and make Math more engaging.
My Project
Technology is hard to come by at our school. We have a limited amount of Chromebook carts that are always checked out weeks in advance, making it hard to truly incorporate technology into our math curriculum.
Having Chromebooks always available in my classroom will allow me to regularly provide STEM activities to my students.
Some of the activities would include completing supplemental online assignments like Tenmarks or Khan Academy which include tutorial videos that will support struggling students. Other activities will be coding and use digital tools such as google apps for students to collaborate and produce group projects that demonstrate their learning.
