Help me give my students LittleBits STEAM Kits to explore and prototype while expanding their knowledge of the engineering process and becoming inventors.
My students are energetic and full of curiosity for new gadgets, mobile technology and digital materials that are naturally a part of the world around them. However more than half of my students come from low-income households so access to the materials they should be using in meaningful ways are not consistently available to them, especially outside the walls of the school.
I want them to gain a deeper understanding of how the technologies around them are not just trends that fade, but an opportunity for a future that they can work towards and attain.
If my students come to understand the choices they have, they will be our next problem solvers, creators, makers and entrepreneurs. They can be inspired to be strong leaders with the power to choose, and a voice to become anything they want.
My Project
The power of putting tangible objects to solve problems and create the world around them is crucial to be able to learn today and be prepared to solve the problems of our future too. LittleBits, electronic modules that snap together, are the perfect platform for turning students' ideations into real products and inventions.
Your donation to our project will increase students knowledge of the engineering process and provide STEAM experiences in a fun and engaging environment where all students become our next generation of problem solvers and change makers.
Recent figures in our area shows there are thousands of STEAM jobs available but only 30% of those are filled. We must prepare our students to create what hasn't yet been invented, to apply today's learning to tomorrow's world, and to the hone the creative skills that will be required of our future leaders in a dynamic technological world.
