Most all of my students come from a low-income/high poverty background, and many struggle with huge gaps in academic knowledge. I have children who come from all sorts of backgrounds and because of this, they need the extra love and support from all the teachers in which they interact with. Being located in the heart of the city, we have a high transient population and receive students all throughout the year. These students come from all over and range in their academics.
My students face many challenges ahead, but throughout all of this, they are still little bodies who have a mind of their own.
They have their own dreams, goals, and wishes that one day I hope to see them succeed. This is the future generation of our society. School is the future of the kids and providing them with anything we can enhances their ability to reach their goal and provide for their future.
My Project
Having these books will allow me to better target specific social skills that all students need in order to become better learners in the classroom, better friends everywhere, and better people in the community. Social and emotional skills are something that children need in order to cope with various situations they may be presented with. These books will accompany our classroom morning meetings using selected lessons and various activities to really help them gain an understand of what these topics mean. Each week a new skill and book will be used to teach students different life skills.
The backgrounds that some students come from lack the ability to help them gain these skills needed for everyday life.
As a teacher I need to ensure that my students are successful not only in their academics, but in their personal lives too.
