I am a second-grade teacher with a wonderful group of students. They are constantly impressing me with their hard-working attitudes, amazing work ethics, and overall positive outlooks on life. I am so proud to be their teacher. They deserve the best education possible.
I teach at a rural, Title I school in North Carolina.
Every child receives free breakfast and lunch. We are located near a large military base and, as a result, serve children of active duty and retired military. Our school serves students from many socioeconomic backgrounds including homeless students, who at times may live with family, friends, or other relatives.
Our students are bright and eager to learn new things. They are hard workers and strive to make their world a better place.
My Project
Distance learning has changed how teachers, students, and their families have navigated through school this year. This year has brought some unique struggles for everyone involved. One struggle I'd like to help lessen is that of learning how to properly write while being away from the classroom.
Even though the students have been away from the classroom, I'd like to continue to build on skills such as writing with my students.
"Paper and pencil" assignments are still a possibility during distance learning, and even though our students need to learn digital skills, handwriting and proper writing skills are still crucial. I know how important it is for students to learn how to write neatly and to learn proper structure when it comes to becoming stronger writers. As second graders, I want to help my students become independent thinkers, while also developing skills such as using proper capitalization and punctuation for example, with their writing.
This project is requesting a class set of grammar workbooks. Every child will receive one of each workbook. I love that parents will have something concrete to use with their students at home, but I can also collect these when we come back to school, in order to see the student's work and progress. Thank you for your time and support of my students.
