My students love learning, reading, and making connections with each other and our world. Some of our most engaging, memorable, and soul touching moments happen when we dive into our read alouds and small group texts. They are an incredible group of 3rd graders who work hard and have made our classroom a place for us to become a family.
"Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." Plato
Many of our students come from low-income backgrounds, various academic levels, and have different emotional needs but they do not allow these challenges to hold them back. Our school is in a small Michigan town and we have little ethnic, racial, and religious diversity. Though my students all have diversity in their backgrounds and experiences, I would love to expand their knowledge. Our youth are the future and every classroom should be a place that encourages open-mindedness, love, and acceptance so that our world can have a bright future. My students are a reflection of this goodness and I believe adding books about kindness, diversity, and self-love with allow them to continue to grow and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
My Project
These books will allow my students to receive more exposure to texts that have a message of love and acceptance, embracing diversity, showing kindness in both simple and big ways, and the importance of loving ourselves for who we are. This project will not only make a difference academically as they gain exposure to a variety of texts and authors, but even more so they will benefit socially and emotionally. Our world desperately needs more love, acceptance, open-mindedness, and kindness and that is exactly what these books teach.
My amazing 3rd graders LOVE to connect and engage in reading, both fiction and non-fiction, and I am so excited by the thought of them making connections and growing as readers and individuals through these texts.
Our classroom has such a strong and warm community and atmosphere, making for a great environment to read books that ask the best of us and even challenge us at my. My students are ready and hungry for that challenge! I know how POWERFUL reading is, and that books can change lives. These texts have so much potential to positively impact my students in such amazing ways.
