Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school where 100 percent of my students receive a free lunch. Many of my students do not have the best home life, yet they come to school with a positive attitude, hoping to learn and create a better future for themselves. I teach at a career center where students learn better kinesthetically so I’d like to be able to engage them with more labs rather than worksheets. They are hard workers and deserve every opportunity at success.
My Project
I teach in a career center where students learn best through hands on activities. I currently teach biology and will be teaching a botany class next semester. Throughout the semester special education students join my class to run different experiments and laboratories.
Instead of teaching students about photosynthesis and cellular respiration through worksheets, I can teach them through laboratories and experiments utilizing our gardens.
My students will also learn about nutrition and how to cook healthy meals using the fresh vegetables from our gardens. I currently have 3 vertical gardens and now need the supplies to start growing my plants. This project will supply me with the seeds and dirt as well as the gardening tools to start growing.
