Help me give my students Level A Guided Reading Collections, Time for Kids, and My First I Can Read Set so that they have a selection of books to choose from during Drop Everything and Read time.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is COOL. Our amazing school is located in Southeast Washington DC. Our building is adorned with a beautiful, bright painted mural that highlights the historic Fredrick Douglass House and Big Chair. Our school is a sanctuary for many of our children. We are located in a high poverty, high crime area. We strive hard each day to provide our scholars with a safe nurturing learning environment.
Our students bounce in the door each day with big bright smiles excited and ready to learn.
They want to know what we are going to do that day and they are eager to show what they remembered from yesterday lessons. Their eyes light up with excitement and the sounds of joy and laughter fill the room when they read a new word, write a new sentence, or complete a challenging task.
My Project
Our class needs to add addition leveled books to library. Leveled books like the BOOKS MY FIRST I CAN READ SET allow students to experience success while reading and gives them the opportunity to enjoy literature. The books selected in this project meet the variety of interest in the class.
Developing a love for reading is an important skill for students to acquire at an early age.
The students in our class need new books to provide them with more chose during independent reading. The Level A fiction and non- fiction readers will give the children access to a different genre of books at their reading level. Our classroom theme for the year is Pete the Cat. The children love reading and singing as Pete goes on various adventures with his friends. The Pete the Cat books will definitely be a hit with the children.
