Help me give my students key hands-on materials that will help them become educated global citizens through resources boxes that will grow the seeds of exploration.
I love my students because they all come to school with their own special talents. They also come to school with their own special set of circumstances. Many of them struggle with home situations, financial hardships, and social-emotional gaps. We work on a daily basis to be kind, show each other respect and give their very best each and every day. I love them because of their struggles and their successes.
We are a charter school whose mission is to guide students to excellence each and every day.
We do this despite the lack of public funding, as we receive only a small fraction of what traditional public schools receive per pupil. We do this, despite using hand-me-down furniture, books, and supplies. We do this because our school is located in a high-poverty area where the students and families send their children to us to exercise their rights as parents to have options in educating their children.
My students have many dreams & goals including, going to art school, being a fashion designer and joining the military.
My Project
These resources boxes and social studies grab and go games are the tools I need to empower students to learn more about the world they live in. Our history and geography curriculum has depth and meaning but for most students, they need that additional spark and fire that hands-on resources provide. Students flourish with games and activities they can play with their classmates. They become engaged with items they can see, touch, work with and explore. These tools add to what students are taught through lecture and worksheets and can provide that necessary boost to want to experience more and to challenge their thoughts and ideas. Awareness of self in a diverse world brimming with history is essential for student growth!
