My students need a subscription to Storyworks Junior, a Scholastic Magazine for growing readers.

Loving, caring, passionate about learning...these are just a few words that describe my amazing fourth graders. These children have a passion for life and a love for the world they live in. They are always first to lend a hand or encourage a classmate.
At first glance you would never guess the struggles these students have been through.
All of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, and many even get weekend food supplies sent home. Many come from single parent homes, or even a two parent home where mom and dad are working 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. They help take care of younger siblings and cousins. These students are way more than your average fourth grader.
The Storyworks Jr. Magazine is an amazing resource Scholastic provides for elementary readers. For this project, I am requesting the grades 2-3 magazine which is perfect for struggling readers in the upper grades.
Many of my students come in reading far below grade level.
They need exciting and unique texts to interest and motivate them, as well as texts at their level. Storyworks comes in print, as well as online where the articles can be found at differentiated reading levels. Students will have exposure to multiple genres in each edition, including a reader's theater which will help build teamwork, collaboration, and communication among peers.
I plan to use Storyworks Jr. in whole group mini lessons, small group, and even centers. The online resources will give my students access to a video read aloud for each article in the magazine as well! There are full lesson plans for each story which will aid in lesson planning and preparing my students to be as successful as possible and help them grow as readers throughout our year together.
