Our high school is full of motivated, generous and hard-working students. Living in a state with a high percentage of obesity and poverty, our students are ready to change those numbers by educating the community about healthy eating while promoting community gardens and encouraging physical activity.
While striving to maintain good stewardship of the land, our students will focus on conservation of resources and protecting the environment by making decisions that revolve around sustainability within our community.
Our students are dedicated to promoting agriculture in the classroom while encouraging others to make positive changes in the way we look at food and nutrition.
By using STEAM on our school farm, the students will use innovative ways to raise and produce food while conserving water and maintaining soil health. Hydroponics will be used in our greenhouse and a sprinkler system using collected rainwater will be used for our crops in our hoop house. Our students will produce food throughout the year for Center Hill students and their families while educating them about the benefits of healthful eating. These meals will be sent home with students through our Mighty Mustang Meals Backpack Program. While using STEAM on our school farm, this project will shine a light on the poverty and obesity epidemics that plague our state while presenting a solution that will promote efficient backyard gardening techniques.
