Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is highly diverse with a free and reduced-price lunch rate just under 80%. About half of our students have limited English ability. We also have a high mobility rate of about 40%, which means more then a third of our students move in and out of the school each year. While we have many hurdles to overcome, we use our diversity as a strength and have set the bar high for all our students.
Each year our staff and students work to increase their successes, as evidenced by assessments and personal goals set with each student.
It is our school's goal to prepare all students to have skills needed to move on to college when they graduate from high school; Here at the elementary level we are working to build the foundation skills in Reading, Math, Writing, & Science, but also in organization, communication, problem solving and collaboration so that they can be successful in a world of constant change.
My Project
This year our Kindergarten students are going to learning a life science unit about plants. This project will provide the necessary hydroponic plant growing Areogarden equipment needed to help them successfully grow garden vegetables in the classroom.
Many people think that growing a sustainable garden can only be done during the warmer months outside, but students will learn that even in a small space in your house you can grow many vegetables and herbs that can supplement your families diet.
You funding this project will not just bring smiles and pride to our Kindergarten students, it will also help them learn the process needed to grow the food and plants that we all eat.
