I have the best class! I have friends that work hard each day to grow their brains and show kindness to others. We are five and six, so that means we learn best through hands on experiences that involve MOVEMENT! There are 21 students in our class this year with a wide variety of gifts and skills, so each day is filled with joy and interesting challenges. My class this year needs more opportunity to develop problem solving skills, collaborate and compromise, learn to take risks, and develop perseverance. We are working on developing a growth mindset, need to learn that making a mistake or struggling a bit just means that our brains have a chance to grow, and that is a GREAT thing - something to CELEBRATE!
My Project
The students in my class this year need a little help to persevere in problem solving, collaboration, and compromise. These highly engaging tools will give me the opportunity to provide rich experiences that the students are going to need to be successful. My goal with the Lego set is to use it cross curriculum with great literature. ie We will read Where the Wild Things are and build a boat that will sail to where the Wild Things are. The Lego set also comes with activity cards that will help those who struggle with getting started with the beginning steps and we will move them along as they are feeling more confident. The domino set will be used as a collaboration tool to build compromising skills as well as problem solving skills. This activity will allow for many decisions to be made and for failure. I am trying to help them understand that when we try something and it doesn't work out the first time we must go on and try again. This is particularly difficult for some of my students this year, so I am really looking forward to supporting them and building GRIT!
