Our students range from 4th-6th grade and are from various cultures and backgrounds. Our kids are falling in love with reading more each day.
On Friday, a team of teacher's delivered learning kits to 100% of our scholars.
After only a week off from school, kids were ecstatic to see their teachers (from a safe distance). When delivering learning kits, as one teacher approached a student's house, she saw him wedged between the blinds and window. His mom explained he'd been there for hours, eagerly awaiting the arrival of that week's classwork and, more importantly, the next "Dog Man" book.
My Project
Our kids love reading. They truly cannot get enough, and we do not want that to be curbed while our school is closed. During the COVID-19 school closures, we will be delivering learning kits each week. These kits will include work for the week, multiple breakfasts and lunches, necessary school supplies and, most importantly, one or two books specifically chosen by that child. We want to have a library that can meet every kid's needs. We want to have books at every level. We want to have books they love, and are excited to read.
This project will allow us to continue our book-lending mobile library while our school is closed and beyond.
