Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Children must have easy--literally fingertip--access to books that provide engaging, successful reading experiences throughout the calendar year if we want them to read in volume." Richard Allington and Anne McGill-Franzen
Readers discover themselves as they journey through books.
My students love to read and talk about books! When I start a new book or series, they cannot wait to check out a copy from the school library or our classroom library. Students are sneaking in reading time whenever they can. One student even tries to walk down the hallway while reading her book! I must give these voracious readers access to more books.
My Project
A classroom library should contain a wide range of reading levels, genres, and topics so that all readers have rich reading experiences. In my classroom students have daily opportunities to preview, share, and discuss books that they love. However, my developing readers often feel left out because they are not on the same reading level as their peers.
This project will give my developing readers access to more engaging texts written by authors that they will hopefully come to love.
The books listed for this project include book series that are accessible for developing readers. Cynthia Rylant's series, Henry & Mudge and Mr. Putter & Tabby, will provide opportunities for developing readers to practice and apply reading strategies while also entertaining them.
