Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic and curious about their world. They enjoy constructing knowledge about early physics, life science, art, community helpers, transportation, maps, and literacy.
Young children are natural scientists and engineers.
My young kindergarten students benefit from a year full of developmentally appropriate, hands-on activities that are aligned with current standards and promote the 4 C's (communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity), executive function skills, and real-life connections. Our program emphasizes the development of social/emotional skills, language/vocabulary development, and learning through purposeful play.
My Project
My young students are constructing knowledge about the world and wonders all around them. A grow light and planting tools will allow them to observe the sprouting and growth of seeds in the classroom as they work to grow a native plants garden for hummingbirds and butterflies.
This garden space will not only provide a habitat for wildlife but also an outdoor space for observing, sketching, describing, analyzing garden critters and native plants.
The grow light, seed tray, planting tools, and seeds will support my young students as they engage in the process of acting like scientists. Imagine the excitement young children will have when they create a garden where they can watch growth over time and invite birds and butterflies up close.
