My Students
My students come to school each day excited and ready to learn! First grade is an exciting time, where students are growing and learning every day.
I teach at a Title I school, where 75% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Our population is racially and ethnically diverse. It is so important to get these kids excited about learning from an early age so that they can work to break the poverty cycle. We are working to get college into these kids' minds, starting right from the beginning!
My Project
When I moved from kindergarten to first grade at the beginning of the school year, I brought what I thought was a library fully stocked with books for students to read. Boy, did I underestimate the growth my first grade students would make across the school year! Our classroom library includes plenty of picture books and early readers that are great at the beginning of the school year, but the library is sorely lacking longer, more challenging books.
By donating to this project, you will provide my students with much-needed beginning chapter books. I know my students will be thrilled to choose these new books to read during independent reading time.
