Learning in our own way is one of the strategies we use to provide flexibility in our classroom. My co-teacher and I would like to provide the tools needed for students to succeed by providing an environment for students to learn to the best of their ability. My co-teacher and I would like to provide a safe, comfortable and homey environment that makes learning welcoming each and every day.
My fifth graders come from a diverse school community of about 600 students.
Together, we are all part of the largest elementary school in our district. These amazing fifth graders continue to inspire me with their desire to learn, and it is my job to find a way to make it.
As we continue to transform our classroom into a relaxing, calming cafe-like atmosphere, we are continuing to add flexible seating options such as a couch or a table, but we also need to continue to add seating or work area spaces. This project we are focusing on a bistro table set that we will utilize as a collaboration space. What makes this project better is with a previous project funded- cricut- we will use the vinyl to create a "growth mindset" quote to put on the table to help promote positive thinking. We are continuing to add items that are sturdy and will be used by many future students.
Flexible seating has helped many of my students because they are able to feel safe and comfortable which helps and increases their work production.
Throughout the year, as we have been adding more options, we have been surveying students, and the results have shown that 92% of students reported feeling more productive and more involved in activities in our classroom.
Thank you for helping to make my classroom feel this way for all our students that walk through our doorway now and in years to come!
