Writing workshop is a huge part of our class. We write every day and like real authors we draft, revise, edit and publish. I want students to embrace their imagination and turn a simple idea into magic. "I only hope we don't lose sight of one thing-that it was all started by a mouse."-Walt Disney
We are a creative group of 10 and 11-year-olds.
Our class consists of students with diverse needs both academically and socially. We work closely with our 5th grade Special Day class during Writer's Workshop. While our school has technology available, we have to share a cart of 30 laptops with the entire school. This makes the final process of publishing our writing on a word processor inconsistent. We would like to have a set of 6 chrome books to use in rotations in Writer's Workshop so we can always get our pieces published.
My Project
We will use this technology in centers as students reach their final step of publishing. We will be able to use them for research and word processing. We will also be able to use them for typing practice rather than pads where we have become expert search and peckers. We will be able to make different types of publications like brochures, research papers, newsletters etc. We will then be able to print them and make classroom books that we can share throughout the year.
By providing students with a more reliable source to publish their writing pieces, it will promote hard work.
The students will begin to see themselves as real authors with published pieces. They will begin to see their imagination and ideas take flight and how a simple idea is how many of their favorite stories began with their authors.
