Some of my students don't have access to books at home. Their kindergarten classroom should be a place where they can get just right books in their hands and fall in love with reading.
These students are growing up in homes where reading everyday is not a reality.
They haven't had the experiences of book immersion. Their classroom is where they will first discover the joy of reading and the doors that are opened when they crack open a book.
Our school shares a library with our sister school and my students don't get to use the library every week.
My Project
This project requests sets of I Can Read! Readers - Level 1, and Eyewitness Nonfiction Readers - Level 1. This leveled classroom library will provide students their "just-right" books to read during self-read time. Increased reading skills will boost their confidence and instill a love of reading.
I am also requesting one set of Connect & Store Book Bins to organize our classroom library materials for easy student use. The Connect & Store Book bins are portable and can be easily managed by the students to quickly get their materials and begin their reading adventure!
Becoming a reader can catapult one's life towards a path of success.
Getting a child to love reading in Kindergarten is vital to set the stage for a love of learning. In order to see success, our classroom needs a classroom leveled library that can support them on their way to being lifelong readers.
