Group Work Requires Group Space - Our Carpet, Our Space.
My students need a carpet for our classroom. This carpet gives all our wiggle worm friends their own space to sit in, allowing all students to focus and do their best when we are working together.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the brightest part of my day. Each of them brings their own shine to our classroom, and they work to support, love, and learn from each other. They are concerned when a friend is absent, get excited when others ask a question correctly, and learn to handle their conflicts with each other.
In my Title 1 school in Charlotte, many of my students come from immigrant families from all over the world!
Many of my students also come from low social-economic backgrounds, and have had fewer educational opportunities than their suburban counterparts. As kindergartners, my students need a solid base to ensure their future success and interest in school!
My Project
Sitting on the carpet as a group is a key component of kindergarten. Students sing together, read and listen together, and learn during whole group instruction.
This rug helps students to know and own their own space, helping them to be responsible for their bodies and learning.
We will use his carpet numerous times daily, helping to create a safe and welcoming space for our classroom. Students will use this carpet during read alouds, through phonemic awareness, and during their own personal reading time. Student will use math manipulatives, create patterns, and measure. Our rug is the focal point of our room, and the center of our learning.
