Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach reading in small groups to children, who are right now, not making standards in the Bronx. I teach in a high poverty neighborhood. Many students and their families are new to the country. My students face many obstacles and challenges each day coming to school. Many are living in a homeless shelter, in foster care, or in a crowded apartment with their relatives. This does not stop my students' enthusiasm for learning and coming to school. My students love reading.
My Project
My students come to school each day facing many different challenges. Many of my students have social and emotional needs. I have found when I let the students hold onto s stuffed animal it helped them feel more comfortable. As a result, students behaved better and were able to focus better. The dolls were helpful in teaching them how to share with friends and how to get along with each other.
These dolls will provide the students with help dealing with their feelings.
Every student wanted to hold on to these dolls even the boys!! This project will help children focus better in the class.
