Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our 18 + specialized classroom program works to educate students with severe and profound disabilities. Our students range from ages 18-21 and are learning skills to help them transition into adulthood such as vocational skills, functional skills, and daily living skills. Currently, we have 41 students in our program. Our goal is to increase independence, teach daily functional skills, and enhance vocational skills to assist our students as they transition into adulthood. We believe in the worth of every single student in our program, and we believe that every single student in our program can be employed.
We need a greenhouse for our students.
The greenhouse will help students learn how to grow their own food and teach them vocational skills.
My Project
Our program works with students ages 18-21 who have intellectual disabilities or are on the Autism Spectrum. Our students are learning vocational and daily living skills. This project will allow our students to learn how to grow their own food and take care of plants. These skills could also lead to real jobs for our students. Our students are hands-on learners and love to work hard. Practical skills that our students can learn are planting, measuring, counting, practical science, and harvesting. They can then use what they grow in culinary arts.
