Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school and are excited to learn new things every day. They keep me on my toes with their inquisitive minds and their desire to work in collaborative groups. Our school is a Title I school, and we are located in a small community where every student is given the opportunity to become a lifelong learner. My goal as their teacher is to provide a comfortable environment for them to care about their work in and outside the classroom.
My Project
My students are on a quest for a greener world. We would like to make recycling a school effort. The students will make recycling posters and visit each classroom explaining how long certain items take to decompose at the landfills if they are not recycled. These posters will show the items that students need to place into the recycle bins.
The four recycle bins and two disposal waste 28-gallon bins that we are requesting will be placed in different areas of our school such as the cafeteria, the school office, the break room, as well as in our school hall ways.
My students will lead by example and become recycling role models for the entire school to follow. They will monitor the cafeteria and hallways to make sure the correct items are being placed in the recycle bins.
We want to empower our entire school to make a difference!
We have also learned that through recycling, we can use trash to make compost for gardens. The students will use green trash and the worm factory 360 composting bin to make compost. The students will plant a garden using the Heirloom seed bank with 42 varieties of vegetable seeds, the Miracle-grow soil and the compost. During the growing and composting process the students will draw and write about what is happening in their garden using their Draw and write Journals. Your donations will not only help my students make a difference at our school, you will help them make a difference in our world!
