Future leaders ...that's what comes to mind when I think of my students. Our district is a one building district in a rural, farming community in southern Missouri. We teach grades Pre-K through 8 with just over 300 students. We are small but mighty and ready to make an impact in our area.
The size of our community allows powerful influence with even the smallest projects and donations.
Our students are boisterous, hands-on learners provided with every opportunity we can dream up. Our students are creative, smart, and part of an awesome school family!
My Project
Our school has taken environmental sciences and the impact of waste reduction very seriously the past two years. Last year, we focused on reducing our lunch room waste by beginning to recycle milk cartons and compost our lunch scraps.
This year, we are focusing on reducing our classroom waste.
We have had single stream recycling for several years, but this year, we added plastic bag and film recycling. All of the students are ready to recycle, but we are having trouble with sorting and keeping our two types of recycling separate.
If we receive these new recycling bins, the color and size difference in the bins will make it easier for our students (especially the younger ones) to understand the difference in these types of recyclable items.
We have assembled a Green Team of students that visits classrooms to check for proper recycling practices. The stickers we requested are used for our Green Team to hand out a positive reward when the classroom recycles correctly.
