My students need these novels to help them study about Greek Mythology while learning to be fluent readers, gain comprehension skills and learn defining in context. These are fun books and the students love reading them.
We are a united 6th grade class. We come from a small rural area in Utah. We have bright, intelligent students who are eager to learn and apply themselves in every subject. I like to challenge my students to take their learning a step further.
Having limited time, we have to integrate all the subjects into one another.
By doing so, we can process more information and learn more. We like to explore History like Christopher Columbus. We like to tinker with Math like Albert Einstein. We write to emulate Shakespeare. Science is being discovered much as Marie Curie did, by accident and using the Scientific Method. We are building readers that can author a book and strengthen the reading community.
If my students dream enough, they can become what they set their mind to. Having a positive mind set, being a community leader, perseverance, empathy, gratitude and mindfulness will develop them into the leaders of tomorrow.
My Project
By reading high quality, engaging and reading leveled books, students will learn to be strategic and independent readers.
Students learn skills and strategies that will allow them to read difficult texts independently.
Students receive more individualized teaching time. We will use these in guided reading groups that will help students develop as individual readers while, the teacher (myself) is available for support and scaffolding.
Students will work in groups to present their character and the challenges they had to face. They will make various projects that will show how they were strategic in their reading and if they achieved the goal of becoming an independent reader.
