In today's world students must be able to solve problems using technology. With today's teaching curriculum students must hit targets that utilize technology. Today my students need a way to solve problems to hit the targets of their future with technology.
My students are curious, fearless, trusting and begging for a chance to make a difference and belong in their world.
The 4th graders I teach know that they are the ones who will make a difference in our tomorrows. Low income, high needs and transient life styles plague them daily, but they know that to make a difference you have to care about something, have passion to make it better, work hard and then let the world know about what you've done. The piece that is lacking in our 4th grade classroom is the technology to share with the world the greatness we have done, would like to do and the thoughts we have about a better world.
My Project
The 4th graders will use the iPads and accessories to document their learning journey. They will film, write, respond and build their ideas, thoughts and realizations with a global community. They will be able to share their ideas not only with other 4th graders around the globe but with adults, specialists in different fields of study and their parents. They will have a tool that will allow them to show not only me (their teachers) but their parents and the world how deeply they think.
This project will improve my classroom as the technology will allow students the access to all the facts and figures that I used to stand in front of them and spew out.
Now I will be able to guide their fact finding and bring it to another level by using the technology to help them synthesize and build learning with their facts. The student's will be able to create websites to show how great they are, how deeply they think and how they can change the world.
