I am proud to teach at a small elementary school in a rural community near Alabama's gulf coast. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and resources, but this really is a school where everyone comes together like family.
Ours is a Leader In Me Lighthouse School (based on Covey's 7 Habits) that focuses on developing the whole child, specifically in the skills of prioritizing, communicating, finding balance, and taking responsibility.
In nurturing individuals, we are able to strengthen the whole community. These kids are our future, and giving them every opportunity is what that we strive for every day.
My Project
These Sphero robots and accessories will enable students to see their logic and reasoning in action. I'd like to give especially my students who are intimidated by math and science the opportunity to see how many of those skills they already have, and can develop, with different hands-on applications. Because there are several ways to communicate with these Sphero robots, kids can begin where they are comfortable and work their way up. I will help make connections between the types of skills and strategies they are demonstrating in designing and executing their plans, so they see that they already have the foundations for a futures in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Working through the Engineering Design Process, they will showcase their collaborative and creative skills, while developing their abilities in problem-solving and critical thinking.
