Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students represent a very diverse community, which is wonderful in that a wide range of socio-economic levels, ethnicities, and languages are present in our school.
Our students tend to be in the lower middle class or even below the poverty level, and therefore are quite needy when it comes to basic school supplies or personal belongings.
Teachers often mitigate this by donating clothes or food items in various drives which are intended to help the community.
As the school library/media specialist, I now need some supplies to make our library a nicer, more organized learning space.
My Project
Next year I anticipate teaching a jazz band ensemble/music technology class. This is exciting for me because we will be able to link together my library/media teaching and the music curriculum.
My students will need up-to-date resources to enhance their understanding and performance of the jazz idiom, and to become familiar with new technology that aids in music performance.
Jazz music is the great American musical achievement and has been exported around the world as a shining example of American culture. In addition, it represents the multi-cultural traditions of our society and is a living example of democracy in action.
Please help my students by providing these materials, thereby enhancing their learning!
