My Project

Fifth graders are building a sense of self that they will carry through adolescence and into adulthood. One of the toughest skills for any young person to build is a sense of empathy and perspective.

This project features great novels and graphic novels, with an emphasis on strong protagonists and growing friendships.

By getting to read about how friends listen, reflect, and grow, and that the bonds of friendship come from making each other stronger and more resilient, our students can strengthen their own sense of self, and have strong examples for what a great individual - and a great friend - looks like, feels like, and act like.
