The students I have come to know and love, work genuinely to become responsible thinkers. They are fun-loving and quick to help others. They are also humble and are eager to share.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds, joining our community from neighboring rural villages and outlying urban centers miles away.
Our local culture values a subsistence lifestyle, in which we believe in the preciousness of resources and practice non-wasteful customs. Community activities often have taken place at the school, and our classrooms double as meeting places and a place for overnight visitors to rest.
My Project
We have been talking about trying to get iPads for the classroom for a while now. We share a set of 22 with 50 other 2nd graders, and are more than happy to take our turns, but sometimes we wonder what our learning day would look like without restrictions to our technology-use schedules.
Imagine having exactly what you want to use for a lesson, when you want to use it...without any stress about working into a schedule or needing to use an iPad unexpectedly.
My class, in particular, uses iPads only for assessments or Choice Time. I'd love to be able to depend on them for more regular use in the classroom.
The Handwriting Without Tears app is an excellent tool in itself, but the multi-colored stylus increases its' effectiveness and draws students to want to use the app! Our class tried Reflex Math as a trial and loved it, however, the school could not provide funds for purchase. We'd like to test it out on a longer-term basis, to see if it yields any improvements in our fact fluency!
