Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten at a Title I school in Temple, Texas. Our students come from a low socioeconomic background with 99% of students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
Our school is home to the Dual Language Program which integrates language minority and language majority in the same classroom with the goal of academic achievement and bilingual proficiency for both groups.
Our school also runs a food pantry and many students are sent home with food for the weekend. Students also receive free backpacks at the beginning of the year. Despite all this, students are always eager to learn and give their best effort in everything they do so that they can be better one day.
My Project
My students are always excited to learn. They put enthusiasm and great effort into their learning every day. Unfortunately, we don't have enough materials for everybody. The magnetic letters will make it easy for my students to work on sight words. They will each have their own set when they do independent stations. The learning games will help students learn while having fun. It will keep them busy and engaged the whole time without distractions or getting bored easily.
