My Students

We have middle school students who get motivated and engaged when they are presented with engaging and relevant literature. The themes and big ideas presented in the literature we read becomes a springboard for high-interest discussions where students consider what it is to be human in our world. They are exposed to alternate perspectives, diverse experiences, and novel ideas about our past, present and future world. From these discussions, they develop their own understandings through literary analysis, poetry, short stories, persuasive writing and formal essays

My students attend a school with high-parental involvement and community support.

Our parents give so much already so with funding cuts continuing to effect our classroom resources, we would greatly appreciate support in helping our students be more active and fully engaged a

My Project

Students need powerful and relevant literature to broaden and challenge their understanding of our world so that they can learn to develop skills like critical thinking, compassion and communication. Great literature expands and diversifies our thinking by giving us insight into other worlds outside of our own experiences. In addition, middle school students are ready for and crave these experiences that allow them to make connections between the themes and topics in these classic books with historical and current events. These books will enable students to delve deep into their understanding of what we value in our society and to explore that understanding in our class discussions. They will then use poetry, literary analysis, short story writing and essays to formalize their thinking.
