Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I charter in San Francisco. Mostly made up of English Language Learners, our room is constantly working on the acquisition of new vocabulary and better understanding multiple languages through literature.
My room is full of hilarious, genuine and vocal first grade minds, who exhibit a natural curiosity for the ever-evolving world around them.
A typical day looks chaotic and sounds rowdy. We are an active bunch that loves to learn through discussion, movement and projects. All in all, there is simply nothing typical about this inquisitive bunch.
My Project
Throughout the day my students active bodies drink water several times. They often ask to leave the classroom to go to the hall fountain. Leaving the classroom frequently increases interruptions, decreases comprehension, and disrupts my instruction.
My students need water to lubricate their brain, however, the water needs to be clean and easily accessible in the classroom to maintain a learning environment.
I encourage my students to make healthy choices, drinking water is one of them. Ideally, my students will fill small bottles of water full of fresh water that can be kept at their seats. Student interruptions will be limited and classroom time will increase for my frequent water goers.
The water dispenser will help my students know that water is important as well as classroom time.
